The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.

Germany is located in central Europe and shares borders with many countries, including Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland and the Czech Republic. With a population of 83.02 million (2019), it is the third largest country in Europe by population. Many know this land as the place of beer and sausage lovers, of discipline and punctuality, where efficiency and strict rules are a true credo. But there is more to Germany than this, and the interesting facts and curiosities about it are many. Below is a collection of photos that show just how unique this country really is.

Germany hosts the world’s largest beer festival, Oktoberfest, which takes place in Munich, where the glasses are one liter! In this country, which has the second largest beer consumption in Europe, 1,500 different types of beer, 300 types of bread and 1,000 types of sausages are produced. More than 800 million curried sausages are consumed each year, and the snack is so popular that there is even a museum dedicated to it.
German is the third most popular language taught in the world, the most widely spoken mother tongue in Europe, and 11th on the list of the world’s most widely spoken languages. German has a unique letter that is not used in any other language, the Ăź, called “Eszett” which is pronounced like a double s, and has many words that do not exist in other languages. For example, “fremdschämen” translates to the shame felt on behalf of someone else, and “Fernweh” translates to the feeling of wanting an adventure. German is also the official language spoken in Austria and Liechtenstein and one of the official languages in Switzerland and Luxembourg.
One third of Germany is covered by forests and woodlands, and there are more than 2,100 castles throughout the country. Berlin, the capital, is home to Europe’s largest train station. The highest peak is the 2,962-meter-high Zugspitze in Bavaria. The country has a mild climate year-round: in July the average temperature is nearly 17 degrees and in January it can be -0.5 degrees.
