I just draw from time to time,” says Russian artist Eugene Korolev, humbly describing his artistic process.

But his work is far from ordinary. His paintings captivate with their strange, absurd scenarios and leave viewers with more questions than answers. Why is a character being gifted something sinister? What compels another to join a pig race? In one notable painting titled A Spy, an overweight spy struggles humorously to hide behind a slim tree, showcasing Korolev’s ability to blend humor with social commentary.

Each of Korolev’s creations seems to be born from a distinct inspiration. He shifts between various themes, from depicting everyday moments to fantastical scenarios, touching on elements of street art, political critique, and surrealism. His work is open-ended, allowing viewers the freedom to interpret the scenes in their own way, revealing deeper meanings beneath their playful surface.
